The new JCOB Type 5
The new JCOB Type 5 is a redesign of the classic JOF Fifty-Five. Designed for the serious rider that has committed to a forward geometry bike. Designed to be ridden out on the nose of the saddle, the rider just perching on the front to open his thigh angle and build big power. The Type 5 will purposely feel a little hard when you first ride it, give it a few rides and it will disappear under you. It has industry leading 105mm long seat rails to give a broad range of adjustment, the nose is 55mm wide so there is no need to use “zip ties” or other adaptions to find the all day comfort on this saddle.
If you like to ride an aggressive bar drop to cheat the wind, the short nose design is the best, the narrow nose section that gradually tapers to the rear will keep your upper thighs from getting chaffed. Designed for both Men and Women, there are so many subtle features that add to the great experience when using this saddle. We included our rear Hydration mounts to easily add my bottle to your bike, the unique curved back shape will also cradle you for better hill climbs. This is a hugely popular saddle for IM racing or for short Sprints, it opens up your upper body so you can breathe better and have the best races of your life.
Tips from our Retul bike fitter:
The JCOB Type 5 saddle is one of the first saddles that I would trial during a retul bike fit if the client has Issues with soft tissue pressure and has had previous difficulty with the width of previous saddles such as the ISM Adamo range. I have found that is is a saddle that is comfortable for most males for triathlon / time trialling and females that appear to have a have a relatively narrower hip structure. The channelled shape through the middle of the nose allows the pelvis to rotate forward and provides the excellent pressure relief in the triathlon and time trial positions without crushing any soft tissue. The narrow width of the nose provides minimal issues with thigh rub and minimises / eliminates nose width issues that are common on the ISM Adamo. The JCOB Type 5 is one of the saddles that I would pick up to trial for any triathlete or time trialist.
Speed & Comfort have used pressure mapping systems and continual research to develop this saddle so that it is suitable for both men and women. Speed & Comfort recognize the need for saddle designs that suit all types of riders across their range of saddles. Their traditional saddle designs generally provide great airflow and pressure control but occasionally there is a need for a more unobtrusive area for the front end of the saddles. As the line of saddles name implies, your soft tissue or genitals are ‘Just Off the Front’ when riding this saddle properly. The JOF line is made up of short-nosed saddles, which can help with cooling and numbness.
The sides of the saddle are specifically shaped to not interfere with upper hamstrings and to allow for multiple riding positions. No saddle should be limited to just one position, the J cycling fifty five will offer the rider many options in positions for increased comfort.
The Type 5 is also compatible with the Speed & Comfort patent-pending rear hydration mount, which mounts to the base of the saddle and not the rails, allowing for a broader range of adjustment and usage.
