The bike was equipped with the SRAM Force AXS groupset, as it offered a great range of gearing, disc brake compatibility, and wireless shifting. The range of gearing was great, as it meant that this bike could time trial, sprint, hill climb and sit in a bunch, further enabled by the quality of life that SRAM’s wireless Etap shifting provides.
As it is equipped with the SRAM Force AXS groupset, a Quarq AXS Spider power meter could be added later, as was the case 9 months after building the bike. This helps the athlete to better gauge the effort they are doing, as well as influences training decisions.
The position the bike takes is aggressive, but due to the inherent flexibility of the rider as a junior, it was by no means uncomfortable for Fondo length group rides. The position itself was influenced by previous bike fit data, as well as information from a retul frame selection to account for growth.
The Argon18 Nitrogen Disc is running a DT Swiss E1800 Spline wheelset, as they are ideal training wheels, and allowed space in the budget for the AXS groupset. They also provide the durability for several thousand training kilometres, without being too heavy that they are a hindrance to performance.
The bike is using a Zipp Service Course SL-80 Ergo handlebar, allowing a comfortable position on the hoods, while also allowing an aggressive position to be reached on the drops. Should the rider wish to go lower at the front in the future, Argon18’s 3D headset system, allows a shorter cup to be fitted, bring the front of the bike down. A Zipp Service Course stem joins the two technologies.
The saddle is a Selle SMP VT30C, determined to be the best fit for the rider during the frame selection process. Supacaz Super Sticky Kush bar tape in gunmetal provides great comfort whilst riding, as well as grip when the rider is sweating. A Garmin mounts holds the bike computer in clear view for the rider.
Running Continental GP5000 TL 28mm in a tubeless configuration gives an amazing combination of grip, flat protection and comfort, undoubtedly one of the best features of the bike.
